Hello my lovelies! I’m Shannen, a (newly) self-proclaimed bookworm. I live in the Midlands in the UK, have a degree in history and I’m currently studying for an MA in Education. I have two fur babies (Taz – black and white and Milo – white and tabby), and in my spare time I can be found with one or both of them curled up on my lap whilst I’m reading, writing, researching or watching sitcoms (such fun!).
Where it began
After graduating in 2019 at age 25, I realised I hadn’t read a book for pleasure in over 10 years. I decided I wanted to turn that around and in the summer of 2019 picked up my first book since I was a child (Stephen King’s The Shining).
Books were the sunshine and rainbows amidst the rain and dreary grey skies.
The process of reading again has been slow and bumpy, but worthwhile. In 2020, books were exactly what I needed and provided me with joy and comfort during a distressing and uncertain time. Books were the sunshine and rainbows amidst the rain and dreary grey skies.
The inspiration for Rekindled Bibliophile
When I started scouring the internet, I found that the book community was filled with passionate, talented and knowledgeable individuals who love books.
However, most I found had been avid readers since they were children and had read hundreds of books. I couldn’t relate to that since I hadn’t read regularly since I was a child and I hadn’t read more than 20 books in my lifetime. This is where the inspiration for Rekindled Bibliophile came from.
It’s never too late to pick up a book and fall in love.
I wanted a space where I could share my passion for books, but also provide an entry point for anybody who may be new to reading, has been struggling to get back into reading after a long break or is stuck in a slump. My main message is: it’s never too late to pick up a book and fall in love.
What’s next?
I’ll be posting book related content (reviews, discussions, genres, favourites etc.) every Wednesday and Sunday. I read widely and diversely but my most-read genres are fantasy, classics, non-fiction and historical fiction, and these are the genres you can expect to see most on my blog.
In addition to book specific content, I’ll also be sharing tips and advice for new/less well-read readers on topics such as reading routines, how to read break into certain genres, how to get started with audiobooks and lots more.
I’m so excited to be part of the book community and to share my love of books with you all. No matter where you are in your bookish journey – whether you’re at the beginning or are a seasoned reader – you’re welcome to come along on this journey with me.
